Insights into a Brazilian-Swiss project.
In the Anthropocene, human beings have reached a stage in which they are able to modify their environment at an unpreceded extent, leading to disastrous phenomena such as climate change. Therefore, human-nature or society-environment relations need to be (re-)thought. This challenge being global, a dialogue across different cultural environments is essential. Education plays a key role in exploring diverse approaches to human-nature relations enshrined in different traditions of thought.
Against this background the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (UFRPE), the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco and the University of Teacher Education (UTE) Luzern decided to explore student beliefs about human-nature relations in the cities of Recife, Brazil, and Luzern, Switzerland. Using video projects in secondary schools and collaborative workshops, student beliefs about human-nature relations and suitable teaching and learning approaches were explored.
During the seminar, scholars and students from the three universities will present their experiences from participating in the 18-months long project. Insights will be given into theoretical considerations, personal encounters and reflections about teaching and learning approaches. Ample time will be devoted to discuss the learnings and own experiences with the seminar participants.
Subscriptions are required via the link above. A certificate of attendance will be issued.
The project is financially supported by the Leading House Latin America (State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI, Switzerland).
